Description
Coating epoxy is perfect for bar tops, top coats, and sealing. It is self-leveling and slightly more viscous than the rest of the Nerpa line, meaning it will slowly coat pieces until it leaves a smooth hardened finish of ultra-high clarity.
Nerpa Polymers are some of the first of their kind to be producing plant-derived epoxies and holding them to the highest safety standards of the industry. Their plant based epoxy is made with glycerol created from a biproduct of biofuel production. This means that the creation of Nerpa epoxies uses what would otherwise be discarded as waste to create a truly ingenious product. By using Nerpa epoxies we at Grand Inspired feel as though we are taking one more step towards our goal to keep woodworking as a sustainable craft.
Here are some of the reasons we love using Nerpa:
1. Responsible Production
Number one for us is the way Nerpa Polymers conducts itself as a business. A no-chemical-waste production promise and plant based glycerol make this epoxy one that keeps woodworking honest and sustainable. Learn about Nerpa’s production here
2. Low Viscosity
In our experience, the process of mixing, pouring, and setting of Nerpa has been a breeze because it pours easily. Other epoxies have had the consistency of honey, making it difficult to mix and easy for air bubbles to become trapped inside. Trapped bubbles make for cloudy work. Nerpa epoxies’ low viscosity means air can easily rise to the surface to be released before the epoxy begins to set, making for high clarity. This Coating Epoxy is a medium viscosity so that it retains self leveling properties while still coating easily.
3. No Yellowing
Now, we will keep this page updated if there is ever any change, but so far all of our test pours of Nerpa have kept perfect clarity in color. Whereas cheaper craft brands have often left us with a yellowed Hardener after even just a few months, Nerpa has done no such thing and has remained clear in its hardened state due to Nerpa’s two stage UV protection sequence.
